Early WAA borehole project, Laikipia County

Our Story

Why Water Abundance Africa exists, and how it started.

Water scarcity is a significant challenge in many parts of Kenya, impacting agriculture, public health, education, and economic development. In arid and semi-arid counties, schools and communities depend on unreliable water sources — contaminated rivers, seasonal streams, and long-distance water walks that keep children out of class.

Water Abundance Africa exists to end this. By combining solar energy with borehole drilling, we provide permanent, clean, solar-powered water infrastructure that transforms schools and communities. We are building a system — integrating concessional capital, carbon credit monetisation, and blended finance to scale clean water and clean energy across the continent.

What began as a single borehole partnership in Laikipia County has grown into a multi-county programme working alongside county governments, the British Army Training Unit in Kenya, and international development partners — with a strategic plan to reach thousands of schools and communities by 2030.
